The key to consistency

Just a few little things I use to keep my reckless abandonment of my projects at an all time low.

Before I start anything else, I’d like to point on the irony of writing a blog about consistency. Because anyone who knows me, knows that I am the furthest thing from consistent, maybe in the entire universe. I don’t know what I want to do from one minute to the next most of the time.

But here goes anyway, because while I can’t follow my own advice, I can tell it to others in hopes they won’t be so damn hard headed. I do believe that hard work and effort pays off. These two things require consistency. I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal but trust me, being consistent is harder than you think.

· Do you have a plan?

o Well, do you!? If not, it’s probably fine for now, but it won’t be for long. Imo, it’s better to have something to go off of. Even if it’s just a little outline that you write down on a sticky note or a napkin or even your hand. Some people can just go off the fly and it works but it certainly isn’t something for everybody.

· Block it off.

o So now you have a plan as to what you want to accomplish. Now what? Block it off. Whether you do that in your planner (I don’t go anywhere without mine) or in an excel spreadsheet. I don’t care what you do it in, just do it. It’s much easier to see what you have to do and block off what time you’re going to work on that task, than just seeing a list of things and overwhelming yourself. Have a certain amount of time every day to work on that task.

· Be accountable.

o No one can make you do the things you want to do except one person. Take a guess who that person is. Uh yeah, it’s you. If you don’t live up to your expectations or meet your goals, whose fault is it? Don’t get me wrong, there are circumstances, things happen and things fall apart. But it’s better to meet part of your goal than to meet no parts of it. Halfway there is still half way and that is an accomplishment in itself. Take your time! You can only take one step at a time.

· Don’t drive yourself crazy.

o I am as guilty of this as the next person. Unless you’re just someone who is always sure of themselves, in which case, go away you perfect weirdo, this post is for us struggling normies. Anyway, I let myself get to a point where I am so worried about something or getting something done that I want to tear my hair out. My anxiety will get so bad that I will start to have chest pains. Sometime there is really no way to avoid getting anxious, there’s no way to not be worried about something. It’s just natural to us. Just keep a sticky note reminder to breathe every now and again. Effort will never betray you. So just keep kicking ass the way only you can. Ya dig.
