Hey y'all, hey. Labor Day is around the corner which usually signifies the unofficial end of summer. BOOOOOO. 😞👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽 But it also means that we start off spooky season. BOO 😶🌫️👻🎃 and if you don't like spooky season, grow up.
Labor Day around the corner also means that I now have seven months to focus in the gym to get snatched for Jess's wedding in which I hope to bag a rich baddie. #generationalwealth
But my ramblings are not the reason you've been summoned for yet another blog post, the real reason is that with summer coming to a close, it's time to update my Baton Rouge Summer Bucket List, to which I added a few extra things to.
DRINKS
We're starting with the matcha rain from Social Coffee. I sure went and grabbed mine because this unique drink is only SEASONAL. What a tragedy. Since summer is rolling to a close (despite what the heat has to say about that) I'd grab mine before it's gone for another year.
I didn't go to happy hour at 13th Social because I'm really not an alcohol girly and also I don't think that special is limited to summertime, never fear, there's still time to get those $7 martinis.
Teatery was on my list and I actually went to this one. I got a strawberry tea with strawberry popping boba and while I am a fruit tea girl, I'm very particular about my tea. I've tried a few things from teatery in the past and I've thought they were all just okay.
They do have a mojito series that looked really good but I didn't see that until after I already ordered, which could've redeemed them but I won't know until I have one. I also didn't try the Vietnamese coffee because I haven't liked it anywhere else aside from Sugar Mill Confection.
BUT, as for the Honey, I Dew freeze from Honey Dew Sips and Savory. They're fire. The freeze is a tasty little treat, perfect for a hot ass Louisiana day. It's not too much coffee but not too much sweet, a perfect combo of a coffee concoction and a cold treat. That's just my opinion, though, you'll have to try them yourself and develop your own opinion.
THINGS TO DO IN BATON ROUGE SUMMER 2023
Liberty Lagoon
I actually did make the solo trek to Liberty Lagoon this summer. I wasn't aware that there was a limit on people who go into the park, meaning a lot of us had to wait outside for an unspecified amount of time (I didn't bring my phone, so I don't know), in the heat until a certain number of people left the park. Annoying.
Once I got into the park, I was able to quickly find somewhere to put my belongings and get in line. Liberty Lagoon seems to really be geared more toward kids, which kind of sucks. There were a two or three slide rides that were really fun and more on par with what I'm used to from a waterpark.
The lazy river was packed with kids who kept getting in the way of the natural flow of things and overall the cramped nature of the park just kind of grossed me out. A woman ended up having some type of medical emergency and we had to get out of the water for a while until she was conscious and able to get taken away by the ambulance.
Other than that drama, it was a pretty solid time even though it was more for kids.
Obscure Market
Sadly, I didn't get to attend Obscure Market because I was at my mom's house for a hair appointment. I just hope there's another one where I can go and indulge in all the weirdness that Obscure Market has to offer but luckily they'll be back in October so I'll be there then, I'm excited to see what it's about.
Gail's Ice Cream
Gail's Ice Cream is a cutie little shop that gives such mom and pop vibes. It's not grannies serving up your ice cream, though. They have a decent variety of flavors that you can get a little sample of before you make the life changing decision of what ice cream you're going to eat for the day. (I got little monster👹)
NY Honorable Mentions
I didn't get to do everything on my Baton Rouge list because I was in New York sweating my ass off there! So in lieu of not making a few of my original list places, here are some New York places I visited.
Malibu Barbie Cafe!!!!!!!!
Babe, we all know it was the summer of Barbie and what better to fuel my pink, plastic obsession than finding out there was a pop-up cafe? Was it too expensive? Yes. Was the food good and the pictures cute? Yes. Therefore it was worth it. Argue with your mom.
China Town
Y'all we were at a park and I'm thinking China Town was a nice little stroll. Boy, was i WRONG. The walk was long as my ass is wide. After dragging my barely alive body across part of New York I got theeee best dumplings 🥟 and sushi and probably the best food I had my entire time in New York. The associate director of the program had to come and retrieve me so I could get back to the park without dying.
Broadway
What would NY be without a trip to a Broadway show? I got to go on my day off and see "& Juliet." She was cuuuuuuute. Musicals can be irritating to some, and I won't lie, some parts did aggravate me and some parts of the story were also annoying but aside from that it was a good story. It's a good show Samantha!!!
And now summer is at its end and it was pretty full.
Love, peace and chicken grease.
