Split Decision - Dave and Central Cee (Album Review)

Shortly after teasing that something was coming on Instagram, Dave (Santan Dave) and Central Cee dropped a joint EP called Split Decision. You may be thinking UK rappers aren't really your vibe but this might be the album of the summer, both rappers brought their A-game, really, WHO is doing what they're doing with rap.

Let's get into it.

Sprinter was released first. The video, the song, the vibes, everything was immaculate. This song is summery as fuck. This song reminds me that I should be shaking my ass on someone's yacht this summer. I know Matt Rife says that if a girl is on a boat she's a hoe, and he'd be correct.

Sprinter has island vibes in my opinion, they knew exactly what they were doing when they dropped this song at the start of June because there's no doubt it'll be on repeat all summer (in my house for damn sure). At first I wasn't too happy with the rest of the album because it's much darker than Sprinter which means much less fun. But upon listening another 200 times I concluded that this is some of Central Cee's best work for sure. And as for Dave, he's gunna get on that beat and slide every time.

Trojan Horse is the first song on the EP. It starts out with Dave saying, "I'm feeling villainous" which in turn, made me feel quite villainous myself. This song starts off talking about how the trap is insidious, which if you didn't know that before, you probably have nothing in common with these artists.

This song ended up being one of my favorites and having some of my favorite verses:

"Young Gs stupid, but, they ain't idiots

It's scary, trap insidious

How you expect us to know how to love? You know?"

"The back poke out and the waist petite

Got flown out all the way to Greece"

"Disrespect, I'm sizzlin' him

That girl look like SZA to me

How you upset that I cut you off when you basically handed the scissors to me?"

"I never tucked my shirt in school, so why would I grow up and tuck my chain?

Hide my face like, "Fuck the fame"

Trustin' different, but love's the same"

"Oi, Dave, I don't even wanna release (Why?)

I don't wanna be mentioned in the same sentence as none of these creeps

I don't wanna come to your session, I don't wanna jump on none of your beats"

Something about that last verse by Central Cee was hilarious to me. I don't wanna jump on none of your beats seems like such an insult. You're a bum and your beats is wack lol.

Our 25th Birthday (named because the EP came out on Cench's 25th birthday (June 4) and Dave's was the next day) being born a day apart is pretty cool. This song starts off with an R&B sound and a melancholy sounding piano that brought a really nice touch to the song which is about overcoming the struggles of tough relationships with your parents, being broke, and all the other treacherous shit that comes with making it out the trap, to living the life of your dreams.

Last there's UK Rap, which literally how did they know I don't listen to UK rap unless its Dave or Cench.

Overall, the EP was dope. I hope these two work together more in the future because they compliment each other really well and brought out the best in each other's ✍️ writing ✍️ IMO.
